New Things on the Horizon

Hi, Happy New Year !

Just wanted to drop by to let you know I am still here !!! Obviously !

My New Year has brought a few changes in my businesses. Nothing too drastic just a short shift around of a few things, concentrating on a couple of different things including slowly changing a lot of what I do over to mimmis and less bubbachenille.

I will still be working with vintage chenille but on a different more feminine level !

I'll be incorporating the Miss Rose Sister Violet new range of trims, ribbons, laces and braids into my work, They are vintage inspired and really divine.

I will eventually change the name of my blog and Etsy store too if I decide to go ahead with it. I am feeling the need for streamlining!

Liesa has set mimmis website up for me and I have started downloading some things for sale on there!

I have a new sign for the markets and am having a sale on lots of bubbachenille clothing in the mimmis shop in Forest Hill.

Christmas in the country.

Hello friends,

Christmas in the Country started tonight with the grand opening ( search Christmas in the Country on Face book.) I didn't go this year but I'm sure there are lots of people shopping as I type!

It was certainly a bit harder to co - ordinate this year with mimmis to look after as well, but I made it and had a big creative weight lifted off my shoulder when I walked out of the hall after setting up.

Dont get me wrong, I love it but the lead up to a two day event is massive and the complete uncertainty of testing out all your new products !

(Probably not a good idea to do this at a big event, a bit like testing a new recipe on dinner guests.) Oh well whats done is done, I cant even go to get facial reactions until tomorrow late afternoon.

Here are some things I've been working on and adding to in readiness for Gatton Christmas in the Country on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th November in the Gatton Shire Hall.

Theres a fantastic range, from a very diverse group of Handmadies and just in time to make real headway on your Christmas shopping list.

It's one of those great shows where you pick up a basket on the way in

shop 'til you drop and then pay for it all at the checkout on your way out. Eftpos available too.

Today I was sewing like a woman possessed, well maybe not quite that bad , but I definitely know my sewing days for this event are quickly running out. mimmis keeps me so busy I have to sneak time on the machine and with the good old glue gun when ever I can.

Hope you can make it along to this event. They have been running 21 years so they have it down pat now and is a really terrific event, did I say that already ?

Excuse my absence from blogland, There just aren't enough hours in the day.

I had a robbery in my shop, mimmis, and they took my trust worthy computer so I have been learning how to use my Apple Mac. It's a bit like teaching an old dog new tricks ! I'm nearly there though.

My time of late in between The Handmade Expo Market has been preparing for the big Christmas in the Country Art and Craft show which I have been lucky enough to have been invited for the third year running. You can never have too much stock can you.

Oh its on in Gatton in the Lockyer Valley on November the 4th and 5th if you can make it there are some amazing stallholders thats for sure.

My Mums next door neighbour is a fantastic gardener, Living in Toowoomba though does help things along.

They live in a complex with three units and the tiniest of garden spaces. Believe you me, she can fit more into her tiny space that I fit into my quarter acre.

When we lived in Toowoomba she would be always sharing her plants with me.

These Lemons were massive.

I love the way everything grows together and joins up to make a picture so to speak. Oh and its so much more beautiful in the flesh !

So it seems I have got into the really bad habit of only blogging once a month ! Shame on me..
Any hoo, with mimmis ( my shop ) keeping me so busy and The Handmade Expo Market going through an expansion phase, I have an excuse. In actual fact the up coming Handmade Expo on this Saturday sees bubbachenille not having a stall for the first time in three years. With Liesa being very pregnant, that leaves Micky and I to do lots of physical stuff, lots of walking with one woman down so to speak.

As part of the markets' expansion you will notice some annual events and some themed events popping up through out the year. Our first " annual " market will be on Saturday 1st October right here where mimmis is, in Forest Hill, in the Lockyer Valley. Hey if you've never been to this part of the world, set the navman and come for the day. Not only will you get to witness, browse and shop at a fantastic Handmade market at a lovely heritage venue, you could be treated to great coffee and food at Cafe Sorella in Forest Hill and you can check mimmis out too while you are here.

I have has this small wicker heart shaped wreath for years and origianally when I bought it I thought I'd tie scraps on to it ( you know that look ? ), Then Miss Rose Sister Violet came into my life and I cant resist playing with flowers, ribbons, braids, beads and ofcourse the hot glue gun, my weapon of choice LOL.

I love this so much I now stock as many of the products from this company I can in my shop, so now I have a habit on tap too!

Oh my goodness, We are going to be busy little bees for the rest of the year, I am beginning to feel the excitement building already.

Not only is the regular monthly Handmade Expo Market on again tomorrow, but we have been busy behind the scenes adding some extra special markets into our calendar.
We love the Lockyer Valley, 2 out of 3 of us now making the Lockyer our homes, so it was a natural progression to bring the market to our community.

We now have 2 extra markets for you to either attend as a stallholder or to mark in your diaries as a must go to event, both in time for some Handmade Christmas shopping.
The first is going to be in Forest Hill at the Old School of the Arts building, ( AKA The Hall ! ) on the 1st October from 9am - 3pm, The second at the Laidley Uniting Church, Patrick Street Laidley, 3rd December, 9am - 3pm.

Bookings are already rolling in for the Forest Hill Market so if this interests you as a stallholder, pop onto the blog and fill out your application.
We have only just released the booking form for the Laidley Christmas Market so you can do the booking form on the blog now too.

Both venues are kinda half way between Ipswich and Toowoomba, ideal !

Absent explanation !

Hi everyone,

Looking back over the last month since I posted, things continue to grow and grow business wise and am finding it hard to keep up sometimes. I actually should be sewing and cutting out right now ! LOL

Mimmis is powering full steam ahead and expanding every day it seems as new ideas come to fruition.

I hosted a lovely workshop with tutor Jule from Whimsical Imaginaings and using Miss Rose Sister Violet products..the feedback and reactions to the workdhops were amazing and so far off the scale, I could never have imagined.

I have now set up my 8 seater back room to host mini workshops and to create a space for the crafty to come, sit, chat and create. I am especially encouraging the concept of UFO'S, come and finish something you started and just never got around to finishing whilst in the company of like minded people, have a cuppa, relax and enjoy.

I have also enlisted the services of very clever scrapper, Jody from Stick'nGiggle to do 3 workshops to start with. Will blog dates and workshop details soon.

I am also open to anyone with a talent and wanting to share with others to please contact me, whether it be knitting or crotcheting, decoupage or embroidery or a hundred other clever things that go on in the crafty world, small groups are waiting to learn something new, right here, right now!

We have also been organising a couple of ANNUAL Market events, one being right here in Forest Hill on 1st October ( 50 days time ! ) if you are interested, please pop over to The Handmade Expo blog and fill in an application as spaces are filling quickly for this country boutique style market.

The Apron

A lovely customer came in today with this note for me. She knows my love of aprons and now I love them even more !
It does come off the internet from an unknown source.

The History of the Apron

I dont think our kids know what an apron is.

The principle use of Grandmas apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few.

It was also because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons used less material,

But.. along with that it was used as a pot holder for removing hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying childrens tears and on occasion was even used for cleaning dirty ears.

From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.

When company came, those aprons were ideal for hiding places for shy kids.

And when the weather was cold grandma wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.

Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.

From the garden it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried the out the hulls.

In the Autumn it carried the apples that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the verandah, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in for dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that " old time apron " that served so many purposes.

Send this off to someone who would know ( and love ) the story about Grandmas aprons.

Remember

Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her Grand daughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.

They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.

I dont think I ever caught anything from an apron.....but love...

A tour of mimmis

I know I have been slack blogging, so today I thought I'd take you on a bit of a tour of the new direction life has taken me .

I get to play every day, which ocaissionaly includes some sewing, or maybe some glueing !

I get to go hunting for vintage collectables, ( much fun ! ), I also stock around 35 different people creations, and I still sew my beloved vintage chenille of course.

I do get to play a lot HERE , HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE though ! Not so much HERE anymore, although I am still a member and there in spirit !

I thought it was about time I showed you some pics and share with you that bubbachenille is still actually alive and kicking !
With the opening of mimmis ( no blog, just on facebook ! ) it's been a struggle to blog regularly and to even catch up on reading all the blogs in my list as I tend to work mainly on facebook these days.
I have a friend coming in for four hours a week helping me with some sewing, mainly heatpacks, which I can never seem to get a stockpile of. Once my three stockists orders have been filled and I go the The Handmade Expo market with them, I am back to square one every month. I should get off facebook shouldn't I and do some more sewing ! LOL
Anyway..here are a few of the winter collection, only in size 1 and 2 at present as they are my biggest sellers. I still have all the other sizes but the T Shirts are only 1's and 2's. All the pants are $25 and the T Shirts are $12.

Just wanted to say Happy and Safe Easter to all my blogging and Facebook buddies.
Mimmis will be closed for the 5 days over Easter, but thats OK, It will all still be there after the chocolate is all gone.

It's time again friends for the next Handmade Expo Market, boy they come around quickly dont they ? You can read all about whats on offer this month on the blog. Bubbachenille and mimmis will have some new goodies to show you on Saturday too. I have been busy working on some size one and size two sets comprised of a long sleeved T Shirt to match some pants for boys and for girls, so come and have a look at those when you are at the market. I also have lots of new purses to show you as well as my usual heatpacks, eco washcloths, cushions, vintage fabric and a special bin this month too with lots of reduced goodies ! On Sunday I went to the Craft Expo in Brisbane really just to have a really good look at Miss Rose Sister Violet. I already stock a small range of their beautiful whimsical vintage inspired lovliness but wanted to see more of the range up close and personal.

I should have stuck with ordering on line because what happened ? I came home with a boot full of the most wonderful items to stock in mimmis....OMG ! OMG ! OMG !

I also sat in on a one hour presentation by Miss Rose herself and that was even more inspiring ! Did anyone else go to the presentation ?

Good Morning friends, Hope your day is filling with creative stuff, UFO's or whatever you are working on today !

My shop is inspiring me to be creative as more and more people come out for a look at what I am doing and thankfully liking what I have on display and to sell. Necessity is a driving force for me too. Lucky I am loving my new world at mimmis. So far , there hasn't been one day since the 11th November when I haven't felt like going to work!

Yesterday a new shipment of lovely well priced cottage plants, including some herbs arrived. These add a lovely country feel to the front of the shop and I am enjoying the conversations that spark from every purchase of these plants. ( love a good chat! LOL ) The same lovely lady who brings the plants also makes country teapot cosies that are very popular.

News about The Handmade Expo Craft Re-stash....

We were inundated with donations for the Craft Re-stash and appreciate all the support very much. Now has come a time where people in need seem to have dropped off considerably and we need to think about what to do with the left overs. So we are now putting a call out for community groups, schools, kindergartens, day care centres to come in and get some things they might need. Fill a couple of bags and help these groups out before we have to move the donations on to another venue.

Dont forget the next Handmade Expo is on Saturday 19 th March, getting bigger and better every month !

I cant believe it's March already ! The first day of Autumn, still feels like summer to me !

The start of a new month to me means re-assessing, re- focussing.
I think recovery from the floods for me is almost over.
I have spent part of the day going through some " stuck together receipts"
I found and can you believe they were still wet ?
Now to get the smell of floods off my hands ! LOL

I have been showing off some bigger and different things that I stock in my shop, " mimmis".
Just to let you know that not only can you find the whole bubbachenille range, as well as about 25 different other " handmadies" lovely things in mimmis but also lots of vintage goodies, large and small, quirky too some of them !
Mr bubba is the vintage buyer and comes home with all sorts of things. Like one off hubcaps, and old castrol oil bottles being two of the most memorable.
I screwed up my nose at these items when he gave them to me, both sold, so now I dont say a word !

Craft Re-Stash and The Handmade Expo

We at The Handmade Expo were thinking of something really productive to do to help likeminded people in our specific field, we thought of how devistating it must be for someone who lost their stash in the recent floods, after years of collecting bits and pieces........
Bring on the Craft Re- Stash !
Between Liesa at Handmade Heaven, The Handmade Expo market this Saturday and myself at mimmis, we will all act as collection points, then after the market have the donations available for collection for anyone who lost stuff in the recent floods.

My good friends over at Brisstyle have come on board too to help spread the word and support this effort to re-stash the community. Thanks girls for your support.

So please pop along to the market on Saturday with your donations to help heal the devastation in a small way.

I have just put up an album of some stock available, but I also have old furniture for sale. Some pieces have been restored, some au naturale, some shabbied up a bit.

Recovered and back on deck

Not with all guns blazing but it's my first real day back at mimmis today and after checking millions of emails and trying to catch up I thought I should do a post to get it all out there so I can start afresh.

Well after having a relaxing and wet Christmas, a couple of days later Liesa, Micky, my mum, sister and niece headed off on a holiday to Melbourne. This was not a sign of things to come but what we had for breaky at 5.30am on the plane.

Then remembering last time we were in Melbourne, one of our favourite spots for coffee was

After filling up on coffee and pastries we had 8 nights in the city, running around everywhere, with one day actually walking for about 8 hours. We did some wonderful shopping, ate delicious food as only melbourne can dish up, caught up with family, saw wierd and wonderful things busking and putting on shows in the streets!

We caught up with Jay from Finki and some other blogging buddies in Brunswick and had a private shopping tour of their little piece of Handmade shop space.

I can hardly even remember that much of that long awaited holiday.

I came home on the Wednesday to celebrate a milestone birthday on the Saturday and the girls had organised a surprise party for Jeff ( hubbys birthday on the same day as mine ! ) and I with people coming from as far away as Darwin, Townsville, Burpengary, NSW, Redcliffe, Brisbane, That was awesome !

It was still raining all this time and then Monday we were getting text messages from the SES to evacuate our homes, Toowoomba had its flood down the main street and surrounds and it just kept coming and coming!

In the end we were evacuated by helicopter to an evacuation centre where we stayed the night. We returned home the following day once it was announced safe to do so to find no damage at all to our homes. This was the start of it though in Liesas back yard. Sadly mimmis shop wasnt so lucky, but we managed to clean up most of it in a day.

Yep, thats all mud ! So everything went out on the footpath while the shop was hosed and swept out, then everything cleand of mud and put back into the shop. Thanks to my DH, my SIL and friend Nicole for doing this for me, oh how much I appreciated how quickly it was done.

Then Liesa and I went off to Ipswich a couple of days to do some helping out there, to people who have lost everything, their whole worlds....But they are OK and their kids are OK in the most, so thats the main thing.

I just look at it and say " It's just stuff " It can be replaced.

I lost maybe 20 bedspreads all up, but its only about 2/3rds of my stash, I can just buy some more !

Getting Close

I seriously cant believe it's almost Christmas, holidays, last market for the year and just for the fact that everything seems to come to a massive build up and then........the end of the year and time to re- assess the next year, a bit ground hog day, but ground hog year !

When I opened mimmis on the 11th November I had already planned, booked and paid for a lovely girly holiday in Melbourne with my mum, sister, and daughters so I will be closing mimmis from 1 pm Christmas Eve and re opening on Wednesday 12th January 2011. Next year my weekend will be Mondays and Tuesdays and will be open Wed to Sun every week.

I am finding it hard to find time to blog as regularly as I did pre mimmis, but I dont want to stop blogging. I am still reading all the blogs I follow and trying to keep up with all the wonderful things you do, but alas, too much commenting takes up a lot of time. I am a Facebook addict and tend to keep up with lots of creative people on there more than in blog land these days.

mimmis is quite full at the moment with about 25 creative people contributing to beautiful things for sale in mimmis and customers are truely delighted at the quality and cleverness of all my contributors, so congrats to all those handmadies, you know who you are !

Theres always an opportunity to have your lovely things in mimmis on commission or wholesale purchase, so if you are interested in having mimmis as one of your stockists then please get in touch with me.

Theres a big night planned here in Forest Hill tonight with the closure of the street this afternoon and I'm told around 5000 people flood into this tiny village for the annual Christmas Festival, I have some helpers coming in and lots of new stock, the main attraction to this festival is the hundreds of hams and turkeys raffled off by way of the good old "Ham Wheels ".

All proceeds go to each group in town like the SES, the school, Fire Dept etc.

Busy behind the scenes with the last Handmade Expo for 2010 too, It's on next Saturday 18th and you can expect at least 120 stalls, A long visit from the Jolly man in the red suit, Carolers and Pioneer Steam Train rides too. Great for last minute Christmas shopping.

Friday night saw four generations of my family head into the city ( Brisbane ) to have a look at the Brisstyle Twilight Market in King George Square, being a member of Brisstyle I thought it was about time I did this and I was blown away, as were Liesa, Micky and Mum. ( My grandson was the fourth generation and he was indifferent ! )

Well done to all the girls who had stalls and a special well done to the girls who organise this market, Hasn't it taken off in the city ? The music was great, the lighting and atmosphere electric. Awesome...

Oh WOW WOW WOW NUMBER TWO

Was our very own Handmade Expo Market held on Saturday, Up at 10 to 4 in the morning makes us tired for days !

It was the best market we have ever had for customers and stallholders alike. We had 137 stalls and over 2500 people come through the gate to enjoy the market offerings, steam train rides, Soulman singing his great soul music, great food, flowers, fruit and just a huge array of lovely handmade things, oh not forgetting Wayne the Fireman, ( I'm sure he attracted a few people on the day ). Thanks to the Mayor, for supporting us once again, and to Councillor Andrew Antonelli for coming to judge our Christmas Stall winner too. Dorothy the Dinasoar won the best dressed stall and chose Ipswich Hospice to be the reciprient of the $100 donation.

It's been so long, so much has happened !

I hardly know where to start, from someone who was blogging every few days to almost nothing the last month or so.

Since opening my shop one week ago today I have been overwhelmed with busy-ness ! Since day 1 of setting up and opening it's been three weeks of non stop on the go.

My first week was amazing for lots of reasons, sales, support from friends, family, aquaintances, customers and total strangers, locals, holiday makers, online likers, friends and buddies and you all need a massive thank you, so THANK YOU and I hope you all know who you are !

I also need to give a massive THANK YOU to all the lovely "handmadies" who have put their faith in me and allowed me to showcase their creations, My shop would be nothing without all of you and I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart too.

I will start to promote all those creative talents soon, ( when I can master the light issue with my camera! )

Nicole from Hot Toffee has set up her studio at the back of mimmis and is creating all her gorgeous fused glass creations as well as some other items you may not have seen before.
Beautiful Miss Rose Sister Violet pieces, the flower on the top is a hair pin, the second is a wrist pincushion for the sewer who has everything, the third is another hair pin and the fourth is a lace embellished glasses case.

A lovely addition to mimmis will be the very talented Nicole from Hot Toffee who has set up her studio in mimmis. For those of you who are familiar with Hot Toffee you'll know Nicole works in various mediums including fused glass. You can view her work here or pop into mimmis.

At the moment mimmis is only on facebook and unsure as to whether there will be a blog in the future, but you'll be the first to know.

Forgive me blogging buddies for I have sinned, It's been ages since I last blogged.

Just reading my last post it was 23 days until I open mimmis and now its only 11 days ! eeks eeks and double eeks !

What is left to do? Only organise internet connection so I can Facebook all the exciting happenings, new stock and sewing updates and hopefully be really busy! Not too busy though, I would still like to take some time to smell the roses !

Speaking of Roses, I will be stocking lovely goodies from Miss Rose Sister Violet, oh yummo ! ( and some other special places that I totally cant decide on !) I have some super creative people helping me stock mimmis on commission as well and this excites the pants off me. I will let you know who they all are soon but you can definately keep up to date on this new journey of mine by following on facebook, It's awesome ! I have a mimmis page and a Miriam Bain page, so I'll see you over there really soon.

Crazy wind

Never been to a market where the wind was so crazy ! Gusting it was ! But all our wonderful customers still came out to get their fill of handmade lovliness and many of the stallholders had the best day ! Go figure. At least there were blue skies and no rain. Here are some pics from Kellie Christies viewpoint of the day. You gotta look back and chuckle !

Then on Sunday Handmade Heaven and I went to the Gold Coast Launch of Poppyseed Markets, Relief to be indoors, you have no idea! Met some lovely people we have only known on facebook and in blogland, that was lovely, and some lovely customers who recognised us from other places. Thanks for coming !

Now it's back to the sudio creating lots of things for Gatton Christmas in the Country on at the Gatton Town Hall on Friday and Saturday the 5th and 6th November, then to fill my new bricks and mortar shop in Forest Hill official opening on 11th, but in reality I will probably be open on the 9th November. Hope you'll come for a look see. I'll tell you more about that in the next 23 days! Busy, busy, busy !

They came from Trumans, a local florist that also has a stall at our market. Justine does such an awesome job with floral arrangements don't you think?

Home at last !

Dont you just love getting home after a busy weekend of markets, expos, networking and other such events ?

I had two expos on the weekend, but left home on Friday morning, stayed at Mickys two nights and got home late yesterday afternoon. Thanks for helping me lug everything around Micky.

Both expos were really about giving out lots of free info. The first was a baby, toddler and child one, quite poorly attended by the public, the second was a smart living expo and average to low turn out to that. Oh well been there done that, so thats a free weekend I'll be having next year!

I did make an interesting purchase though...A wash ball that lasts for a year, no detergent necessary, will do a post on that after I've used it and will review it for you, if it's good and works will save from $500 upwards per year in laundry detergent.

I also managed to take some nice photos of my stall, which is different every single time I go to an event!

The new tooth fairy pillows will make their way to Handmade Heaven this week and then will go on tour to, Brisstyle Mother and Child Market, The Handmade Expo Market on 16th October and then to Poppyseed Markets at Broadbeach on the GoldCoast on 17th October. Hope to see you there !

My Garden

Oh look out,

Last week was so hot and sunny I thought it was summer,

This week is cold and raining, until a couple of hours ago.

You know what this means?

Must be perfect weather for growing veges !

I strolled down to the garden only to my surprise my radishes are all ready to pick, my baby siverbeet looks like it's on steroids, my flat leaf parsley is all over the place and everthing else has grown so much in the last week its absurd!

I'll be having radish salad every night for a month!

Any suggestions how to make it different?

Personally I love them straight out of the garden , but I need to plate them up !

Market gone, Another Preparation begins

Well The Handmade Expo Market on Saturday was the bees Knees !

Lots and lots of enthusiastic, happy customers, stallholders and Steam Train riders!

The highlight ( other than all the delicious food and Handmade goodies ) was Soulman whipping the crowd to a frenzy with him awesome music. He'll be back in November and December to entertain you all over again!

Now I am busy this week working on some new stock for this weekends Baby, Child and Toddler Expo at the Ipswich Showgrounds on Saturday and the Smart Living Expo on Sunday, also at the Ipswich Show grounds.

You could say I have been having a " play" and I can assure you the colours are much nicer up close and personal !

Seeing I am going to a child and toddler expo, the thought crossed my mind to make some new items especially for children! Above are tooth fairy pillows..

Oh and I must tell you about a new coffee house in Ipswich. They make awesome coffee, just like in Melbourne, Just like it should be made, ( ie without boiling the milk ! eeeeewww!) and also they have simple yet to die for bagettes and cake! yum.

I really should have taken a photo of the bagette as it came wrapped in white paper and tied up with string, they had me at the presentation, Luckily it tasted extremely delicious!

This morning I have been very productive, finishing off a few skirts and pants from a big sew up yesterday.

My rack floweth over!

Lots of new spring colours in little girls vintage chenille skirts sizes 1 - 4 and lots of boy colours in pants, sizes 0 - 5.

I have a little time left today before I have to start packing up the car for Saturdays Handmade Expo Market, I think I'll put some of those creative ideas into action and start cutting out some new things for next weeks sewing.

Or you know what else you could do ?
Take the GPS that your hubby got for Fathers Day but wanted to wait to install until he had read the instructions ( which BTW we know that will never hapen!) That way you could go straight there, instead of leaving Hamilton at 2.15 pm and arriving at Bulimba at 3.45pm.

Garden and sewing update

Well my garden is starting to come along with the structural help from Mr bubba!

I cant believe how well everything is doing,

We'll be reaping the rewards soon !

Just about all my seeds are up and the seedlings I planted have taken off too.

Following on from the cowboy pants I made, I have made these in chenille.

I popped 5 pairs on Facebook to show all the size 3 lovers and 2 have found new homes already.

Back to the drawing board, I had a huge cutting out day on Tuesday, concentrating on boy colours in pants and much more in the girly skirts too.

The Lovely Linda sent me some more lovely pics from The Handmade Expo Market on Saturday.
It was such a glorious sunny day we couldn't have wished for a better one !

Justine from Trumans Flowers had her debut on Saturday and has the most gorgeous arrangements as well as really reasonably prices bunches ( from as little as $5 )

Boxes and boxes of these delicious little cupcakes, given to the first 500 lovely people who came in through the gate.

Liesa, Micky and I the lucky ones to hand out the cup cakes, very cold morning!

Did I mention we all had a great day! Cant wait until the next one on Saturday 18th September.

A side ways step

Yes I have been consumed by other things, just a sideways step though, I will get to the sewing soon. The story of my life though, running around in circles is what I am really good at !

I've been gardening, after Mr bubba rotary hoed on the weekend I have been consumed by the dirt!

It's only a 3m X 3m patch but I have managed to fit all sorts of goodies in there!

Here's a pic and I'll post another when things start happening !

After dad passed away a few weeks ago, some of us decided to plant an Olive tree in his memory.

Our family goes back a long way in the history of Olives in Australia, in the days when only Greeks and Italians ate Olives, Now thats a long time ago ! My grandfather Jacob started this plantation just outside Horsham, Vic and a couple of others in the district also. My grandfather sent dad to Florence, Italy to University for two years when he was 16 years old to learn all about Olives. We planted our tree overlooking the vege patch cos dad in his younger years always loved growing veges too. Here's my tree.

Tomorrow these are coming out as they are so messy around the pool. And these will be trimmed and cleaned up.

Cos I am really over all this mess they make !

Purse Monday

I have 3.5 days this week to get ready for The Handmade Expo Market on Saturday and to start working towards the Brisstyle Market on Saturday Sept 4th.

Today I worked nearly all day ( after I planted out a vege garden ) on purses.

Tomorrow it will be more little skirts and pants, but with a new twist ! I'll show you tomorrow!

Hi lovely followers, you are being very patient with me while I have been trying to get back into the swing of all things bubbachenille.

It has been very hard and still is but I am pushing through.

The last couple of months I have been living on Facebook, which I have found to be amazing for my little bubba business and for The Handmade Expo too. If you aren't doing it yet, may I recommend it to you as a great networking and sales tool. ( one of the many I might add! )

Today I got to spend some time with Micky, who works full time but for reasons I wont be mentioning, had a day off today. I love going shopping with someone else helping me choose things and today it was fabric. She also has boys and has a boy perspective of what would look good in the bubba range as I tend to be drawn to all the girly colours.

Here are todays choices for some newbies for summer, with vintage chenille trims instead of the usual vintage chenille with fabric trims ( you have to move outside the square occaissionaly ! )

Have you guessed yet that we are into spots at the moment?

I have been busy stocking up my etsy store, my madeit store and my ethikl store also keeping Handmade Heaven fully stocked for your shopping convieniance !

Better get back to doing some cutting out of " the new" fabrics, idol hands and all that!

Only 15 sleeps until The Handmade Expo Market and we are celebrating two years of operating this awesome handmade only market.

Just thought I might pop in to say Hi and to let you know that I will be back soon.
I have been having some creative thoughts, so that is a good sign...yes...?

For all you lovely bloggers, I have been reading your blogs when I can.
I'm not sure if you are wondering whats happened to bubba, but I can tell you that getting back to blogging and sewing will start to happen this week.
You see, my dad passed away on 9th July after being diagnosed and admitted to hospital 16 days previously. The whole family was by his side and I guess it is a blessing that he wasn't in pain for very long. It still doesnt seem real, any way, I have been travelling quite a lot to help mum out, having family stay, etc etc etc.

Hi everyone, Just thought I'd drop by to let you know I wont be as active for the next undetermined time cos my dad is very sick and I need to spend as much time as I can with him and mum. I have been with him everyday now since last Wednesday and although I have been reading some blogs every night, I haven't been doing any bubba stuff to post about.
I have been dropping in to facebook, but that also has taken a back seat.

The Handmade Expo Market

I have been spending as much time as possible in my studio preparing for The Handmade Expo Market this saturday.
Stocking up on ECO Cloths,
Heat Packs and Hobo Pants.

Excitement is building for this market ( held monthly ) as each month we grow with new stallholders, making beautiful handmade goods.

We have some great foodies coming this month too, you can practically have a three course meal and drinks!

The Pioneer Steam Train will be running again through out the market for short trip of approx. half an hour at reduced fares for market goers.

If you live in South East Queensland and love handmade, then this is the place to be on Saturday.

Washing Macines DO eat socks and I have proof..

Recently, after helping my daughter with the folding, it frustrated me when there were so many un partenered socks at the end of the job.

She then produce a shoe box full of lots more unpartenered socks collected, I would say over maybe a two year period ! She says it just happens ! It never happened to me, Oh well, I sifted through them all and paired up what I could, but we still had lots of odd ones left over!

Today I was pulling washing out of the machine, and guess what happened ? The machine literally ATE a sock! Yep as I was pulling the clothes out, putting them into the basket, one tiny grandbabys sock jumped up and dove down behind the bowl. Well really it didn't dive, it was eaten by the machine. Luckily Mr bubba was able to tip the machine over, scrounge around with his hand to find it resting in the innards of the machine ! Heaven forbid I should ever lose a sock !

So machines do really eat socks !

This is how interesting my long weekend was after the 3 Grandchildren went home after their sleepover!

My Creative Space

I thought I'd give My Creative Space a go this week as I have been busting to tell you about my new pants...well not MY new pants but the ones I'm making for little boys.

After some discussion with Kylie we decided the name of these pants from here on in shall be known as the HOBO pants.

When I was going to a patchwork and quilting group a few years ago, you need hand work to do whilst chatting away with your table mates.

So I started making one inch finished squares on papers and sewing them together and making nine patches.

The theme of my quilt was going to be tartans, stripes and checks, they could be woven or printed fabric, I didn't care as long as it was cotton. People would give me bits and pieces from their stash all the time ! You see they could really give me their scraps because I was the crazy woman cutting up tiny squares.

Well short story long I have heaps and heaps of these squares and really wanted to use them,I knew I wasn't going to ever get to that quilt, so I thought about how I could use them in my work today.

I wanted something different too that I knew no one else could possibly ever have, to embellish my vintage chenille pants...

So I offer you the HOBO pants for my creative space and will try to do it again next week too!

Clever People Challenge

It was called the Clever People Challenge, even though I dont really feel very clever.
Now that all the "clever people" have been revealed all the items made are up for a silent auction to raise money for a very worthy cause.

Market wrap up

Although it was a beautiful day in Brisbane on Saturday, the cold evenings were on the minds of all my lovely customers when purchasing my heat packs.
I think they also appreciate the vintage chenille they are made from and how snuggly they are!

What beautiful winter weather we had on Saturday for the Brisstyle Market. I couldn't get around to have a good look at all the stalls as Mr bubba was the hired help for the day and he's really only good at lifting things at the beginning and the end ! ( do you get my drift ? )

I did manage to get a shot of my view though.

What a gorgeous setting and a beautiful church.

I managed to get a shot of my lovely neighbour too.

I wil be back at Hamilton on July 10th for a themed Brisstyle market, and the theme is all things " ECO", so I'll fit right in with the majority of my creations being made from recycled vintage fabrics. I will also have lots of vintage fabric for sale including chenille and vintage sheeting. I will also have some vintage buttons and some scap packs packaged up especially for applique and scrap booking.

This is the first "ECO" market for Brisstyle and will be a great destination to do some real vintage shopping.

I got my hands on the most delicious chenille recently and couldn't wait to chop it all up !

The bottom three are off to Handmade Heaven tomorrow for a short visit and if not sold will come with the top ones to market.

Introducing Eco, Body, Wash, Cloths

I would like to introduce to you my new cloths..Ta Dah !

Firstly though... a couple of weeks ago I thought I would name them Body Cloths, but after thinking about it, that narrows the possibilities down to one use.

Then I thought Wash Cloths was the way to go, alas I'm too much of a thinker !

So now I think they shall be known to the world as ECO CLOTHS.

These ECO CLOTHS are all made from VINTAGE CHENILLE, all preloved, pre washed bedspreads.

The variety of fabrics is huge and being the nature of vintage, not easy to take orders, unless luck has it that I have exactly what you are after.

Their uses are many and varied, here's some examples but I'm sure you'll come up with lots of your own,

baby wash cloth, Great baby shower gift,

dish cloth, Great kitchen tea gift or stocking filler for Christmas,

general wiping in kitchen, laundry and bathroom,

great body cloth with exfoliating properties in the bathroom.

If you are using a knitted or crotched cloth at the moment, why not try the ECO CLOTH.

It's one way to help the environment!

I was doing some blog surfing this afternoon when I had a light bulb moment reading Pips blog! It brought back memories of child hood and my mothers cooking.

I had to drop everything, sprint to the kitchen and make some Potato Latkes.

They were so yummy, except I think my mums were yummier !

But doesn't everything always taste better when someone else cooks it ?

Mr bubba enjoyed the hell out of it and then finished off the whole batch.

I am having a SALE over on my Facebook Page at the moment.
I have started off with bibs, burper, teddy,brooches and buttons.
There will be more to come until I clear some stock to make way for new range.

I am constantly inspired by my peers in a Brisbane Etsy team I am in called Brisstyle.

I'm sure you've heard me speak of them before.

Today I thought I'd have a go at making an Etsy Treasury to share the love of Vintage Fabrics and other re purposed items.

Brisstyle is having their first "Eco" Market on 10th July which I will keep you informed of, but in the mean time here's a sneak peek of some of the sorts of things you can expect to find.

The Handmade Expo This Saturday

Hello everyone,

This months Handmade Expo Market is almost upon us again.

The largest handmade market in Ipswich is on this Saturday 8am - 2pm,The Ipswich Turf Club, Brisbane Rd, Bundamba and will come alive again with lots of creative people who have been working hard all month for you, making lots of new and enticing goodies for the discerning shopper.

Adding to our expanding range of goods on offer, we now have 2 local farmers offering mainly local produce at each market. The quality is lovely too.

Most of our regular stallholders will be there, plus some new and different ones also.

Enjoy a coffee, dutch pancakes, cupcakes, BBQ, biscuits and slices, some cheese or olives, and much more, there is plenty of seating for you to enjoy a break in your shopping or catch up with friends for morning tea.

If you have a moment we'd love for you to fill out our customer survey on our blog to let us know how you think we are going and some more of your thoughts towards the market.

And last but not least, The QLD Rail Pioneer Steam Train will be running short rides thoughout the market for a reduced ticket price. (Poor things are up at 3am lighting the fires).

No I'm not talking the about the Molly Meldrum version !

I'm talking about the 5 sleeps variety until The Handmade Expo Market this coming Saturday.

Once again the race is on to have everything organised for the next bubbachenille stall as well as all our work done in organising the market. My plan is to be very quiet this week in blogland but probably over do it on facebook so that everyone knows about the market , so we'll see how that pans out!

The Brisstyle Mother and Child market on Saturday was a superb day, lovely customers, good sales and being able to spend the day with Liesa and surrounded by all the other lovely Brisstylettes was a treat for me. My bunting, which is new addition to my range was popular so I'll be putting some more of those together this week, matching up some different colour ways. I have some ready to go in pinks and pale spearminty type greens and unusual chenille patterns.

I just had to blog again today because I'm soooo excited about this parcel I got in the mail from whimsie dots. I was amazed at first when I saw Mandys etsy store and blog, I had no idea there were so many patterns in vintage sheets available.

If you love this sort of thing, no doubt you'll already be over there having a look around !

We dont seem to get this variety here in Australia.

What do people do with their no longer required vintage sheets ?

The op shops only have one or two decent ones on random occaissions, at least hardly ever when I'm visiting!

Now to work out what to do with these lovelies....ponder..

I think I will simply drool over them for a while, caress them even, like I do when I get a heap of vintage buttons, or special vintage chenille bedspreads.

Maybe they'll just look great in my stash for a while and I'll just know what to do with them when the perfect project presents itself !
